EFFECTIVELY
STARTING AT RS 1,799 TO TAKE ON FREE JIOPHONE
Airtel has joined hands with Karbonn brand to offer two new full-scale 4G smartphones -- the Karbonn A1 Indian and the Karbonn
A41 Power for Rs
1,799 and Rs 1,849.
The scheme will see the telecom network join hands with more OEMs in the days
to come to "create an open ecosystem of affordable 4G smartphones and
bring them to market for virtually the price of a feature phone."
Airtel notes that while the Karbonn A1 Indian and the Karbonn
A41 Power normally cost Rs 4,390 and Rs 4,290 correspondingly, it will be
offering the 4G smartphones effectively at the price of a feature phone by
bringing a tariff plan into the mix. The telecom network also adds that the
"ownership of the smartphone is completely with the customer and there is
no need to return the device to Airtel/Karbonn at any point to claim the cash
benefit." Here is how Airtel is offering the Karbonn A1 Indian and the
Karbonn A41 Power that cost Rs 4,390 and Rs 4,290 -- at an effective price of
Rs 1,799 and Rs 1,849:
The customer makes a down payment of Rs 3,299 (for the Karbonn A1 Indian) and Rs 3,349 (for the Karbonn A41 Power) for the phone and makes 36 constant
monthly recharges of Rs 169. The customer then gets a cash refund of Rs 500
after 18 months and another Rs 1,000 after 36 months, taking the total cash
benefit to Rs 1,500.
In case the customer does not wish to choose
Rs 169 bundled plan, they have the flexibility of doing recharges of any value
and validity as per individual requirements. However to claim the cash refund benefit recharges worth Rs 3,000 must be done within
the first 18 months (to claim the first refund installment of Rs 500) and
another Rs 3,000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund
installment of Rs 1,000).
