What is Pronouns?

What is Pronouns?

what-is-pronouns

Pronouns are words, which can function as a whole noun phrase, e.g.; in being subject or object of a clause or as the head of a noun phrase. They act as substitutes or replacements for noun phrases in the context.

      A Pronouns functions as a whole noun phrase so does not have any determiners of modifiers, e.g;

1.    You are going to Switzerland, lucky you.
2.    You have the large room; I’ll have the small one.

    In English, many words can function both as determiners ( which requires a head ) and as pronouns, which do not require a head.
