Analysist parts of speech with examples

Words are divided into different kinds of classes, called parts of speech. The parts of speech are eight in number. All the parts of speech used in a sentence with a unique meaning of the sentences.





  • The parts of speech are eight in number, sentence with all 8 parts of speech.


1. Noun 
2. Pronoun
3. Verb
4. Adverb
5. Adjective
6. Conjunction
7. Preposition 
8. Interjection 

(1) Noun:–
                 A noun is a word used as the name of person, place or thing, as,

Example:-
               1.  Akbar was a great king.
               2.  Kolkata is on the Hoogly.
               3.  The Sun shines brightly.

               Here Akbar, Kolkata, and the Sun used as the proper noun but king and word Hoogly used as the common noun. 

(2) Proper noun:- 

         A proper noun is a word used as instead of a noun as,

Example:-

           1. John is absent because he is ill.
           2. The books are where you left them.

In the first sentence the word he used instead of John who the third person singular and the word them used instead of the books who third person plural.

(3) Verb:-

         A verb is a word used to express an action or state; as,

Example:-
              1. The girl wrote a letter to her cousin.
              2. Kolkata is a big city.
              3. Iron and copper are useful metals.

           In sentence 1, the action denoted by the verb wrote that from the subject. In sentence 2 or 3 which express being as is and are.

(4) Adverb:- 
               
        An adverb is a word used to add something  to the meaning of a verb, an adjective or another adverb; as, 

          1. He worked the sum quickly
          2. His flower is very beautiful. 

                  Here the adverb quickly and very used to add something to the meaning of a verb.

(5) Adjective:-

        An adjective is a word used to add something to the meaning of a noun; as,

Example; 
           
         1. He is a brave boy.
         2. There are twenty boys in this class.

                      In above example, brave denotes a quality of a boy and twenty denotes the number of boys.

(6) Conjunction:- 
                  
         A conjunction is a word used to join words or sentences;

Example: 
         1. Ram and Hari are cousins.
         2. Two and two make four.
         3. I ran fast but missed the train.

    Conjunction and, but join the two sentences. In sentence 1,2 and join Ram and Hari as cousins. In sentence 3 the word but join to events.

(7) Preposition:- 
  
       A preposition is a word used with a noun or a pronoun to show how the person or thing denoted by the noun or pronoun stand in relation to something else;

Example;

         1. There is a cow in the garden.
         2. The girl is fond of music.
                  
       The preposition in denoted by a cow that related to the garden. The preposition (of) to show the noun (the girl) hobby of music.

(8) Interjection:-

         An interjection is a word which expresses some sudden feeling like,

Example:

        1. Hurrah! We have won the game.
        2. Alas! She is dead.

                   The word ‘Hurrah' express a feeling of joyness and 'Alas' show the feeling of sorrow.
