Types of noun and their examples with definition.





Friends in English grammar a noun is the most important part of the grammar. It's root start at a primary base to higher base. In the higher base, students make mistake in a noun so today the topic of types of a noun in English grammar with examples helpful to you for basic grammar.

Types of noun and its definition - Noun is a word used as the name of a person, place or things. there are five types of noun.

(1) Common noun

(2) Proper noun

(3) Collective noun

(4) Abstract noun

(5) Material noun 

(1) common noun:- 
                             a common noun is a name given in common to every person or thing of the same class or kind.

Example:- 
              (1) Ashoka was a wise king.
              (2) Sita is a girl.

                         The noun king might be applied to any other king as well as to Ashoka. The word girl is a common noun because it is a name common to all girl. 

(2) Proper noun:- 
                            A proper noun is the name of some particular person or place. 

Example:- 
                 (1) Mahatma Gandhi wrote the experiments of truth.

                The noun Mahatma Gandhi refers to a particular person. 

(3) Collective noun:-
                            A collective noun is the name of the numbers (collection) of persons or things taken together and spoken of as one whole.

Example:-
              (1) The police dispersed the crowd.
              (2) The French army was defeated at Waterloo.
              (3) A herd of cattle is passing.

              The word crowd, army, and herd a collection of person or animal.

(4) Abstract noun:-
                           An abstract noun is usually the name of quality, action or state considered apart from the object to which it belongs.

Example:-
              (1) We all love honesty.
              (2) The soldiers were rewarded for their bravery

                      The word honesty as an adjective and express qualities apart from any particular person or thing. The word bravery expresses a quality of soldiers.


(5) Material noun:-
                           Material noun classification of nouns are the names of objects that we can count and the names of things we can not count. (countable-uncountable noun.)

Examples:-
                (1) Our class consists of twenty pupils.
                (2) The cow gives us milk.

                      In the sentence, 1 twenty refers number that we can count but in the second sentence, the word milk refers liquid that we can not count.
